Love without hope,
as when the young bird-catcher
Swept off his tall hat to the Squire's daughter,
So let the imprisoned larks escape and fly
Singing about her head, as she rode by.

Robert Graves, 1925.

Is there anything that can be added to what I think is the perfect love poem? One sentence nearly says all there is to say.

(Please forgive my apparent languor, but I can hear rustlings coming from the
LoveSunshine blog cave, now that spring is here...)

  1. You can't stop loving or wanting to love because when its right, it's the best thing in the world. When you're in a relationship and it's good, even if nothing else in your life is right, you feel like your whole world is complete

  2. 'Tis true. Love paints the world in brighter colours. I think Graves captures here one of the most powerful and poignant aspects of love, love as an idea, as a poetic construct, of impossible yearning. it's what keeps the old game going.
